Last week Brent and I had a little getaway to Nashville, TN to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. Since I don’t typically drink alcohol and Brent is going to a bachelor party in Nashville in May, we decided we would avoid Broadway street (the main area of honky tonks/bars) and explore other areas around the city. We had the best time! I thought I’d share about our trip in case any of you are heading to the Nashville area soon and looking for recommendations.
Night One: DeSano Pizzeria, Ben & Jerry’s, and Wonder
After the six hour drive to Nashville, checking into the hotel, and getting everything unpacked and organized (well, for me at least, Brent just leaves everything packed in his bag during most trips), we were pretty exhausted. So, we decided to have a relaxed evening and headed out to DeSano Pizzeria as it was a recommendation I received in our Facebook VIP Group. We were definitely pleased with this recommendation! It is a very laid back atmosphere where you first order at the cash register and then seat yourself. You get to watch them make the pizzas in the wood-burning ovens, which is always a neat setup. The service was fast and the pizza was delicious and if you know me, you know I love pizza, so I can be a tough critic!
After dinner, we ran into the grocery store and bought a pint of Ben & Jerry’s, headed back to our hotel room and decided to rent a movie because we never have time to do watch one at home! We watched the movie Wonder, which as I’m sure all of you know, is a great movie. Even Brent liked it! It was a very relaxing first night.
Day Two: 12 South and a Visit with Friends
On our second day we spent the morning walking around the 12 South neighborhood. Well ok, if I’m being honest, I told Brent that we had to go there because I couldn’t wait any longer to visit the Draper James store! I absolutely love Draper James clothing, which is Reese Witherspoon’s lifestyle brand, and I’ve been dying to visit one of the stores. Of course, it did not disappoint! I would go as far as to say it was the most perfectly adorable store I have ever visited! I could go on and on about this store, but I will keep moving because there’s a lot more to share.
After spending way too much money at Draper James, we took our photograph at the Nashville sign that’s located right outside of the store, which is a fun keepsake! We walked around a little more, but we were both starving, so we headed to Bartaco (another Facebook VIP Group recommendation) for lunch. Again, this recommendation was excellent! I got a quesadilla, which was good, but Brent said that his tacos were possibly the best he’s ever had! Plus, the restaurant is beautiful with a white-washed interior and a beachy vibe. Definitely worth a visit!
After lunch, we headed out to Brentwood to visit some friends and their newborn baby. We spent the afternoon visiting and laughing and had a wonderful time! We all went out to dinner at Martin’s Bar-B-Que and had another delicious meal. There are multiple Martin’s locations around the area, so definitely a good option if you’re traveling around Nashville. I wore Meg & Marie's Blue Gingham & Ric Rac Button Down Shirt all day and got so many compliments on it, especially while I was at the Draper James store, which was exciting!
Day Three: Franklin and The Hill Center at Green Hills
On Monday we decided to make the 25 minute drive into Franklin, TN. We had a few people recommend this and we both love exploring new areas, so we thought we'd give it a shot...and I’m so glad we did! Franklin was a much quieter town than Nashville, especially on a Monday morning, and it was oh-so-cute! The main street was full of adorable shops, boutiques, and restaurants, which is basically my heaven! It was pretty cool outside, so Meg & Marie's Sheri Sailor Blue Sweater was perfect for the day. We spent the morning exploring this main street, grabbed some more pizza for lunch (I know, I have a problem), and then headed back to Green Hills, which is the neighborhood we stayed at in Nashville. The drive between Franklin and Green Hills is really beautiful and I definitely got a little caught up daydreaming about what it would be like to live in one of the big, gorgeous houses along this road. Ahh, maybe someday!
When we got back to Green Hills we explored the Hill Center which is another cool area with a ton of great shops. They are mainly chain retail shops, such as Pottery Barn and Vineyard Vines, but I can’t pass up an opportunity to visit them since we don’t have any near Lincoln, IL! There was also a Whole Foods in the Hill Center and Brent will be the first to admit that this was the most exciting shop that he went into! Again, you won’t find a Whole Foods near Central IL, so we thought we would explore it for fun because we’re weird like that haha. Of course, we didn’t leave without buying a few pastries and snacks for our ride home!
For dinner, we ate at Tavern, which is an M Street restaurant. We had multiple people recommend this restaurant and although the inside had a nice bar vibe, neither of us were overly impressed with the food. Not bad, but nothing super spectacular. Then, we headed back to the 12 South neighborhood to walk around and explore there some more. We both agreed that this was our favorite area of Nashville. It is so cute and pretty, I would definitely recommend it. Of course, we couldn’t head to our hotel without dessert, so we hit up Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream, which was delicious!
The Trip Continues...
There's still another full day and a morning of our trip left to recap our weekend getaway to Nashville, but I decided to split it up into two Nashville posts because there's so much to cover! Coming up next I'll write about our tour of the Ryman Auditorium, our show at the Bluebird Cafe, and of course more great food! Stay tuned!
